Neath Port Talbot Apprentice Is The Best In The UK
A Neath Port Talbot building apprentice has officially been named the best in the UK.
Mitchell Barguss scooped the prestigious Association for Public Excellence (APSE) Male Building Skills Apprentice of the year award at a ceremony last week.
The 18-year-old, from Cimla, beat off fierce competition from scores of his peers from local authorities throughout the UK to win the coveted award.
At the ceremony, Mitchell was interviewed by a panel of industry experts who, after assessing other finalists, crowned him Male Building Skills Apprentice of the year.
Mitchell said he was delighted to have been nominated for this award.
He said: "I am very proud to have been put forward, as it shows that the Council recognises the effort I am putting in to my apprenticeship. Winning the award was absolutely fantastic. The apprenticeship is providing me with a wide range of skills, is really enjoyable and will provide me with a career for life."
Neath Port Talbot Council Leader Derek Vaughan said being shortlisted for the award was an achievement in itself.
"But to win the award is a brilliant achievement," he said. "The award is a reflection of Mitchell's commitment to his apprenticeship.
"It is also testament to the quality of training provided through Modern Apprenticeships by the Council, providing opportunities for people wishing to gain new skills to earn while they learn. I wish Mitchell all the very best for the future."
