Building Schools For The 21st Century Consultation Launched
Hillingdon Council has launched a consultation asking for residents' views on an exciting new programme to rebuild, remodel and refurbish secondary schools in the south of the borough.
Building Schools for the 21st Century is a programme designed to transform education in Hillingdon for future generations. The programme will see schools in the borough benefit from improved Information Communication Technology (ICT) and better sports and education facilities, not just for students, but for all Hillingdon residents. There has been steady improvement in schools across the borough over the past four years and through this programme we aim to maintain this progress and build upon it to serve students and the community in future years. In Hillingdon, the programme will cost more than £150 million, half funded from government grants and the balance from funding secured by the council through its own activities.
Building Schools for the 21st Century is part of a national programme that will see a number of secondary schools in England rebuilt or remodelled to improve learning facilities for the community in a bid to raise standards and attainment. The overall aim of the programme is to create learning environments that are suitable for the 21st century curriculum - allowing both teachers and pupils to reach their full potential as well as providing accessible facilities for the local community.
Cllr David Simmonds, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Education and Children's Services said: "Building Schools for the 21st Century will mean exciting new changes for Hillingdon's schools. With new and re-modelled buildings to state-of-the-art Information Communication Technology (ICT), both students and the community will be able to benefit from fantastic facilities. I look forward to hearing what residents and parents think about the options in the consultation booklet and welcome the exciting changes ahead."
