Longsight Library To Undergo Major Refurbishment
Longsight Library in Manchester is undergoing a major refurbishment to create a state-of-the-art library and brand new Adult Learning Centre, all under one roof.
While the work is carried out a temporary library will be available at the Longsight Youth Centre on Stockport Road, and there will be additional visits from the mobile library to the Asda car park in the area.
Longsight Library will temporarily close on Sunday 1 February, with completion of work expected for early spring 2010.
The refurbishment of the library will improve and expand services for the area and will combine the library and learning centre facilities for the first time.
The library will benefit from a new and improved Children's zone, a Homework Club and the first Headspace Zone - a new laid-back environment for your people to read or surf the internet.
The first floor will feature the new Learning Centre to include classrooms for various courses such as music, language, history, crafts, literacy, and numeracy. There will also be a relaxing break-out space and community area.
Councillor Mike Amesbury, Executive Member for Culture and Leisure at Manchester City Council said: "The refurbishment of the library is great news for Longsight, providing first-class library and learning facilities for local people. We have made provision for temporary library facilities as a priority while the work is carried out, and are certain that that the brand new Longsight Library will be well worth the wait!"
