Leading support services and construction company Carillion hosted a very special visit by 2nd Permanent Under Secretary Ursula Brennan who visited the final phase of new Junior Ranks Single Living Accommodation (SLA), which is part of redevelopment works at Northwood Headquarters.
The new SLA provides improved Junior Ranks accommodation on the Northwood site and was delivered ahead of programme by Carillion.
A total of 279 ensuite bedrooms have been delivered by Carillion, each with the latest technology for delivering television, internet and telephone services.
Each floor also has kitchens, utility rooms and common rooms to enhance the comfort of all occupants.
In addition, Carillion will be launching an accommodation reception service to Junior Ranks during core working hours.
Ms Brennan said: "The Northwood Development Project is one of a number of initiatives to upgrade and improve living standards for our service personnel. It is especially pleasing that this new accommodation at Northwood has been delivered ahead of the planned programme. In this busy 24 hour, operational headquarters it is important that the staff have a modern and comfortable environment in which to live and relax, as well as to work."
The facility has been delivered and is being managed by Carillion as part of the major PFI contract for the redevelopment of the Northwood Headquarters. The new accommodation provides a significant improvement in living conditions for the occupants, and also for the environment, achieving an 'excellent' Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) rating.
