Hulley & Kirkwood To Provide M&E Design For Birmingham BSF Scheme

Hulley & Kirkwood have been chosen to provide M&E Design for the new Birmingham BSF scheme. The project, worth a mammoth £2.4billion, is the biggest BSF scheme to date, and will be delivered by Catalyst Lend Lease (CLL), a Consortium made up of Catalyst Education and Bovis Lend Lease, who were recently announced as preferred bidder.

The scheme will see 89 of the city's secondary schools rebuilt or refurbished to ensure the delivery of 21st Century education for the young people of Birmingham. The scheme will be carried out in six phases with completion scheduled for 2024. The first phase, worth £153 million, will see twelve schools completely redeveloped and four academies built. Completion of phase one is expected in 2011. Hulleys have been chosen as one of the principle supply chain partners for the M&E design services following their extensive experience working on other similar education schemes such as Leicester BSF, Northampton Schools PPP and Tower Hamlets Schools PPP, and are at the bidding stage for Somerset and Rochdale BSF.
