Kier Selected To Transform Services For People In Sheffield
Better services and better value for money are among the benefits for the people of Sheffield following the selection of a new partner to run selected services on Sheffield City Council's behalf.
Kier Ltd has been selected by the Council as its preferred bidder to supply key services to the people of Sheffield. This is the second of two contracts to be let under the Council's Outstanding Sheffield Programme.
The move means that Kier will cover functions currently provided by the Council's in-house Corporate Property service and Facilities Management service. These include the management of Council buildings and land and the cleaning of many Council buildings.
The £55m contract is for an initial period of seven years, with the option to extend it by up to a further six years. During the second and third years of the contract, it is proposed to incorporate other similar services across the Council into those run by Kier.
Cllr Simon Clement-Jones, Cabinet Member for Finance and Customer Focussed Services at Sheffield City Council, said: "These changes will improve the quality of services for the people of Sheffield and local businesses, providing those services in ways that suit them. They will have a much better customer experience. Council Tax payers will also be getting better value for money.
"These changes will bring about benefits for the environment through improved energy efficiency and increased recycling. The Council will continue to own its land and buildings. This partnership will focus on providing clean, bright and well-maintained facilities for the people of Sheffield and council workers. The best interests of the community will continue to be at the forefront of future decisions."
