E.ON Invites Local People To Nuclear Public Exhibitions

Construction News Image
Local people in South Gloucestershire are being given the chance to find out more about Oldbury's potential for a new nuclear power station at a series of public exhibitions to be held by leading energy company E.ON.

E.ON is one of a number of companies that have expressed an interest in developing new nuclear power stations in the UK and has announced three drop-in sessions for local residents in the Oldbury area. The sessions are designed to tell people more about the Government process that will decide which locations in the UK might be strategically suitable for new nuclear power stations.

Colin Scoins, Director of Development at E.ON said: "While our interest in Oldbury has been well-documented to date, at this stage, the Government is simply looking for companies to nominate sites that could be strategically suitable for new nuclear plants.

"We are however committed to working with the local community as we look to firm up our plans, and that's why we want to give everyone the opportunity to have their say and ask any questions before any decisions are taken on potential proposals for Oldbury."

E.ON is supporting the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority's (NDA) nomination of land adjacent to the existing power station as a possible site for a new station. This reflects the fact that existing nuclear power sites are widely regarded as having qualities which make them suitable for the development of new reactors.

The public drop-in sessions will allow local residents to meet members of E.ON's nuclear team, and to learn more about the Government's Strategic Siting Assessment process, the nomination of Oldbury into this process and what is involved should the site be taken forward.
