Seventh Set Of Million Hours Safely Worked On Olympic Park

Construction News Image
Workers on the Olympic Park have achieved a million hours worked without a reportable accident, the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) has announced.

It is the seventh time this milestone has been achieved since the ODA gained possession of the Park in July 2007.

Lord McKenzie, Department for Work and Pensions Minister with responsibility for Health and Safety, said: "The ODA is to be congratulated for their commitment to their workers' health and safety at the Olympic Park.

"What the figures prove is that health and safety does not need to be compromised when undertaking large contracts with demanding deadlines. As we move closer to 2012 and the completion of these important venues and infrastructure that same commitment will be more important than ever."

The ODA have also started a series of health and safety workshops for children living near Broxbourne, where construction will start in June on the White Water Canoe Centre. Ten primary schools are taking part in the programme that uses drama to communicate the importance of staying safe when living or going to school near to a construction site.
