New Deal For St Luke's Hospice Move

Plans to relocate St Luke's Hospice to the site of a former school in the Norfolk Park area of the city are set to go ahead should Council leaders approve this move next week.

Sheffield City Council has been helping St Luke's Hospice Trustees to proceed with their proposal to relocate the charitable Hospice, which is currently based at Little Common Lane, Whirlow, during the current economic downturn.

The Council is now poised to dispose of the site of the former Bluestone School at Norfolk Park to the Trustees of St Luke's Hospice.

But part of this agreement will mean the Trustees undertake not to pursue any application to seek planning approval to develop the Norton Nurseries site at Graves Park.

Sheffield City Council Cabinet Members are to consider the plans at a meeting next Wednesday, May 13.

The new hospice will be integral to redevelopment plans for the area and key to these plans will be the fact local people will have a say in how the local area will be designed.

The site is in the Norfolk Park regeneration area and is easily accessible by public transport as well as being adjacent to the green space of the Heritage Park.

Council Leader Cllr Paul Scriven said: "I am pleased we have been able to reach a positive arrangement with St Luke's Trustees on this matter and that we have been able to help them find a solution to this long-running issue despite the current economic climate.

"We have listened to local people who told us they wanted a positive resolution to this situation and that is why local residents will be key to making these plans work, and which is why they will be involved in the design of the area around the hospice.

"It is now time for the city to get behind St Luke's, and support them as they continue their excellent work."
