Lovell has been chosen to carry out a £1.9 million scheme to build 18 new homes for affordable rent in Hellesdon, Norwich.
The new homes will be created on the site of Ethel Tipple Court, a former respite care home, for Saffron Housing Trust in partnership with Norfolk County Council and Broadland District Council.
The homes - nine two and three-bedroom houses, one three-bedroom bungalow and eight one-bedroom flats - are being built to Level 3 of the Code for Sustainable Homes, the system which assesses the environmental performance of new housing. The flats have been specially designed to accommodate disabled residents.
All of the flats and the bungalow will be available for affordable rent through Saffron Housing Trust with the houses allocated to people on Broadland District Council's waiting list. To make way for the new development, Lovell will be demolishing the former care home. The needs of all people previously using the home have been reviewed and new services arranged as necessary.
"We are delighted to have been selected for this scheme, which will provide local people with modern, energy-efficient affordable homes designed to a high specification," said Lovell Regional Director Simon Medler.
Work on the project begins this month and is expected to be completed in February 2010.
