A high quality extension of Dove Cottage in Ailsworth, near Peterborough, won the best 'domestic extension or conversion' award at the annual East Anglia Local Authority Building Control (LABC) Built-In Quality Awards held at the DeVere University Arms Hotel in Cambridge.
Over 200 professionals from the construction industry attended the LABC East Anglia Region awards evening to recognise and reward the most innovative construction projects completed over the last 12 months and the forward-looking people and organisations behind the schemes.
The awards covered 12 different categories in three main sections: best partnership, best innovation and best projects.
Kevin Dawson, Building Control Manager at Peterborough City Council, said: "The quality of all the nominations was very impressive and clearly demonstrated what can be achieved through the commitment and dedication shown by agents, developers and builders who work closely with local authority building control officers.
"It was wonderful to celebrate these achievements and reward people from different disciplines who worked together as an inclusive design team."
The building works at Dove Cottage consisted of a first floor extension forming an additional bedroom, and a ground floor substantially glazed extension replacing a conservatory. The judges noted that the finished building provides a high standard of accommodation, and were particularly impressed by the quality of an oak framed sun-room.
Other projects from the Peterborough area to be short listed for the finalists at the LABC East Anglia awards were: best large housing site - Hazelton Homes, Vale Walk, Four Chimneys Crescent, Peterborough; best small commercial building -The Key Theatre extension.
