Lovell is giving two teenagers the chance to build careers in the construction industry as it carries out work on a major housing improvement programme in the city.
Trainee carpenters Sean Powell and Dan Scott, who both live in Barnwood, have joined the company under its apprenticeship scheme.
Sean and Dan, both 18, are learning their trades with Lovell as part of a major housing improvement programme the company is carrying out for Gloucester City Homes to upgrade its housing stock. In addition to their work on site, the pair both attend Gloucestershire College's Construction School in Cheltenham where they are studying for a Level 1 Diploma in Carpentry and Joinery on a day release basis.
"I'd always enjoyed practical subjects at school, especially woodwork, and after I completed my A-Levels, I decided to pursue it as a career," explained Sean. "The fact that I'm working alongside an experienced Lovell carpenter means that there's always somebody there to ask if there’s anything I'm unsure of."
"Construction runs in my family as my father is a contracts manager," said Dan. "I used to help him out when I was growing up and my interest developed from there."
Sean and Dan have both carried out a variety of work as part of their apprenticeships including fitting kitchen units and worktops, bath panels and skirting. They are both hoping to continue their careers with Lovell once their apprenticeships are complete.
