Mansell Scoops £18m Student Accommodation Contract
Mansell has been awarded an £18 million contract to design and construct 230 new student accommodation units at the corner of Lavington Street and Great Suffolk Street, London, SE1 for the UNITE Group, the UK's leading developer and manager of student accommodation.
The accommodation will be constructed across two blocks. The first six-storey block will include 102 modular units, manufactured by UNITE Modular Solutions Ltd at its plant in Stroud, and will deliver a choice of studios and clusters of two or five bedrooms, as well as 3,584sq ft of commercial space at ground floor level. There will be a brick facade to the front elevation and render to the rear and retail/commercial areas on the ground floor.
The second block will comprise 128 traditionally constructed studios and one bedroom flats in a 13-storey tower. The tower will be clad in unitised anodised aluminium and will include a roof level pavilion and terrace.
Richard Simpson, Managing Director of Development, said: "We're delighted to be working with Mansell on this scheme in the heart of London. UNITE is set to open its doors to an additional 1,368 customers in September this year, and our 2010 pipeline will be dedicated on growing our leading position in the Capital. Lavington Street is an exciting new development, making use of the best construction techniques to deliver 21st Century living in a prime location for some of London's 250,000 strong student population."
Construction has just started on site and will be completed by the end of August 2010.
