Crossrail has appointed OSG-Miller International as the administrator for its Small Claims Scheme.
The scheme, which will run throughout the construction of Crossrail, is designed to give a prompt response at minimum cost and inconvenience to claimants.
Under the scheme, a member of the public who considers that he or she has a small claim for physical damage arising from construction related activity can file a claim. If immediate action cannot be taken to resolve or settle the claim, it will be passed to the small claims administrator.
They will be responsible for investigating the claim, deciding whether the claim is warranted, assessing the damage and arranging payment to the claimant.
In the event that a claimant considers the award from the Small Claims Administrator to be inadequate, he or she can write to the Crossrail Complaints Commissioner requesting arbitration.
OSG-Miller International have experience in operating a similar scheme put in place during the construction of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link.
Clinton Leeks, Corporate Affairs Director at Crossrail, said: "Crossrail is vitally important in meeting London's future transport needs and such is the scale of Crossrail it will be the biggest construction project in Europe with many worksites, including within central London. The Crossrail works require careful management, including minimising disruption to local residents and businesses and keeping people informed as work progresses. Through this scheme, we will be able to provide a positive, single and clear mechanism for minor construction-related claims."
