A party of Chartered Institute Of Building (CIOB) members were given the opportunity to have a site tour of the new Pinderfields Hospital scheme on Saturday 16 May.
The £220m redevelopment of Pinderfields Hospital forms the major part of Balfour Beatty's £311m flagship Pinderfields and Pontefract Hospitals Development PPP Project, for Mid Yorkshire NHS Trust, and will be central to the reconfiguration of health services in the Wakefield area.
The project will deliver a new in patient hospital on the existing Pinderfields Hospital site which will house 46 departments, 708 beds, of which 50% are single en-suite rooms, 1,839 car parking spaces and a stand alone new build Pathology building. State-of-the-art facilities include radiology, operating theatres, maternity, burns, rehabilitation, children's services, CCU, pathology, consultant's rooms and associated administrative offices.
Senior members of the site team hosted a tour of the site, and were able to show buildings at the various stages of construction. Particular interest was shown in the use of modular construction and pre-fabrication techniques employed in order to meet programme and quality requirements and more importantly the design led health and safety standards demanded from the site team.
