Leicester-based civil engineering firm Danaher & Walsh, has won 'silver' at the 2009 Institution of Civil Engineers East Midlands Merit Awards, the EMMAs on Friday night. Danaher & Walsh, with their submission partners of Capital Shopping Centre and BSP Consulting, were awarded with 'highly commended' for their extensive work on the Parliament Street Bridge Restoration in Nottingham.
Judges said of the commendation: "The excellence demonstrated here has been in the delivery of the solution in a high impact environment."
The Parliament Street bridge restoration project is located under a major city centre bus route in Nottingham, above an underground car park and directly outside the main entrance of one of the Victoria Centre's flagship stores.
The works required a complete removal of all corroded structural members, cleaning, strengthening and protecting the restored members against future deterioration together with the construction of a new structural concrete deck, road surface and footways.
Ian Gilbert, Contract Manager at Danaher & Walsh said: "After being involved in such an extensive project, we are very pleased as we were up against some very strong competition from seven other submissions in and around the East Midlands.
"Being recognised by our peers for our work is a great honour and everyone at Danaher & Walsh is delighted with the result!"
