Morgan Est Scoops £21m Welsh Water Contract
Morgan Est, one of the UK's leading infrastructure specialists, has won a £21 million contract to build two new Advanced Digestion Plants for Welsh Water.
The contract is for all civil engineering aspects associated with the construction of both plants; one to be located at Cardiff Waste Water Treatment Works and the other at Afan Waste Water Treatment Works. Cardiff involves the construction of two 22-metre diameter, 22-metre high reinforced concrete digester tanks which will sit on a 2,900m3 raft foundations. At the Afan site operatives will build two 18-metre diameter, 18m high pos-tensioned structures on a piled base. Both schemes will include all bases and building structures associated with the mechanical and electrical process.
This project will provide Welsh Water with the opportunity of reducing its operating costs and carbon footprint therefore producing a green-energy source through the advanced digestion process.
Sean Murray, Morgan Est Project Manager, said: "All the enabling works, which included numerous service diversions, demolition and modifications to an existing structure have been completed.
"The team is very excited by the challenge of getting everything ready for the power-on date of 31st March 2011."
