RTPI Welcomes Appointment Of Distinguished Members As IPC Commissioners

The Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) has welcomed the appointment of two of its senior members to the newly formed Infrastructure Planning Commission, the new body established to accelerate the planning process for major infrastructure projects.

The newly announced commissioners are Glyn Roberts, Director of Technical Services for the North Staffordshire Regeneration Partnership and member of the RTPI's General Assembly, leading chartered planner Jan Bessell of Dickinson Dees LLP and fellow member of the RTPI's General Assembly, along with Paul Hudson, currently director of Thames Gateway in the Homes and Communities Agency.

The commissioners will either act singly or sit on panels to make decisions about major applications for nationally significant projects, with the aim of speeding up the process to allow important investment decisions to be taken in a timely manner, with full and detailed community consultation central to the process through the involvement of Planning Aid volunteers.

Matt Thomson, Head of Policy and Practice at the RTPI said: "It's fantastic to see senior chartered planners being appointed to these important positions within the IPC. Both Jan and Glyn have a long and distinguished record of service to the Institute and to the planning sector and we are delighted that their expertise has been recognised with these appointments."
