McGee Group is one of Europe's leading civil, structural, demolition and decontamination specialists.
The group was founded in 1958 by Tom McGee and has grown dramatically in size and reputation in recent years. McGee continues to pioneer new and innovative techniques and methods, enabling them to deliver projects faster, more economically and with reduced environmental impact.
McGee has a specialist team dedicated to the construction of concrete and steel frames and super structures such as those recently implemented at Stables Market, Camden. Stables Market is the largest and most colourful of the markets. Previously a Victorian horse hospital, it provides a seemingly endless maze of cobbled alleyways, converted warehouses and covered outdoor eating areas together with shops and stalls of all kinds.
The redevelopment consists of two new four-storey buildings that now house shops, food outlets, offices, workshops and storage facilities as well as an exhibition space. The heritage of the site was considered, with the nine 'coal drop' arches retained and brought into use, the existing temporary stalls demolished and a new pedestrian route through the rear of the site exposing 25 of the existing railway arches. Pedestrian walkways in the style of the existing historic ramp and bridge system make it much more accessible than the previous scheme. A glass roof and cycle parking spaces have been added and contributions to off-site housing and street improvements made.
McGee Group is unique in the UK in delivering all the early stage works for this scheme with its own, employed labour and its own plant and machinery.
