The firm endeavours to integrate it at every level of project development and not just as an after thought because we believe that true sustainability must meet the needs of our client, the environment, the community and the budget.

As a designer of urban and rural environments, Gillespies is in a position to influence and promote sustainable development in its projects. Whilst a lot of attention is focused on the important role of architects in promoting sustainability, the equally important role of urban and landscape designers is less well publicised.

An example of a project where Gillespies' landscape and public realm design contributed to the environmental rating of a development was MediaCityUK located in Salford, UK. This unique mixed-use development has been accredited as the world's first BREEAM approved sustainable community.
